The general contractor licensure application process for Minnesota includes a criminal background check that’s conducted through the State of Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and mandated continued education classes every two years. Part of the Minnesota application fee goes into a recovery fund which protects homeowners in the event that the homeowner has a judgement against their contractor in the State of Minnesota. For these reasons, it’s always recommended to hire a licensed and insured general contractor.
